A wedding is one of those occasions that creates a memory that lasts forever. For some people the celebration can also be stressful, particularly if they are caring for a loved one.

This was the case for Christine, who cares for her mother Diane (aged 88). Christine’s daughter, Diane’s granddaughter, was getting married. The family was very excited but also concerned about Diane’s health at the wedding.

A client with AccessCare for almost a decade, Diane, has been supported to remain living at home. She has used a range of our services including escorted shopping, personal care and volunteer transport. With multiple health conditions including osteoporosis, arthritis and a history of falls, Diane now has the support of Catherine, her Aged Care Adviser made available through her Home Care Package.

Catherine heard the family's concerns and arranged for Diane’s Support Worker Julie to attend the wedding to support her with whatever she needed on the day. The plan was put in place for Julie to pick up Diane, help her get ready, attend the ceremony and then take Diane home afterwards. With all the caring arrangements sorted, Christine was able to have peace of mind knowing her mother was being well supported before, during and after the ceremony.

The wedding took place on a smoky but fine Melbourne afternoon down in St Kilda. It was a wonderful afternoon on the sunny roof deck. Diane and the family had a wonderful day and were so grateful that Julie was able to support Diane on the day, so the whole family could relax and enjoy the occasion.

"Thank you AccessCare and the City of Kingston for making this happen", said Diane.
