New Aged Care Act to start 1 November 2025

Published on 11 June 2025

News update

The Australian Government has announced that the new Aged Care Act will now commence on 1 November 2025 (instead of 1 July). This short deferral is supported by the aged care sector and will lead to a better outcome for older people.

This extra time means aged care providers can:

  • Better prepare clients and support workers
  • Improve systems to support changes
  • Have more conversations with older people about what’s coming.

The new Act will:

  • Strengthen the rights of older people
  • Make care assessment easier
  • Ensure service information is clear and transparent
  • Support choice in decision-making
  • Clarify what older people can expect from aged care services.

For those receiving Home Care Packages, this also means more time to understand changes under the Support at Home program, including new service agreements, pricing, and care plans.

We’ll continue to work closely with government and sector partners to ensure a smooth and supportive transition.

We're here to support you through these changes. If you have any questions, please contact us.
