Commonwealth Home Support Programme

An AccessCare support worker helps a client to prep a meal in their kitchen.

AccessCare is an accredited provider of the federal government’s Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).

Through this program, we offer eligible people living within the City of Kingston with entry level in-home support services, with the goal of helping our clients to continue living independently in their own homes for as long as they wish to.

Some of the services clients can access through the CHSP include:

  • Help around the house, including light housework
  • Meal preparation
  • Assisted shopping
  • Personal care, including showering and dressing
  • Home maintenance and modifications
  • In-home nursing and specialised healthcare
  • Planned respite care

For the most up to date list of services that are included in the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, please visit the My Aged Care website.

Who is eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme?

To be eligible for this service, clients must be aged 65 years and over (or 50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) or be under the age of 65 and living with a disability.

How do I apply for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme?

Before you can access a CHSP service, you will need to complete an assessment through My Aged Care. Their team will talk to you about your needs, and determine if you are eligible for a CHSP.

You can also find out more about how to apply for the Commonwealth Home Support Programme on this page.

How much does the Commonwealth Home Support Programme cost?

A nominal fee or client contribution is usually required and is based on your household income. However, services will never be denied or ceased if you are assessed as being unable to pay. Do note that if you are using AccessCare’s volunteer transport service, a fee applies based on the number of kilometres travelled.
